Description:
'Don't Look for More' - Play, pleasure, complicity, and humanity.

In Jest Theatre Company are a newly established international company, focusing on creating innovative clown and physical theatre performance in both the UK and Europe. Our work is inspired by the teachings of Philippe Gaulier, one of the world's greatest masters of theater and clown, and Sue Morrison, who brings together the diverse elements of Native American and European clowning, Bouffon, play, and improvisation.

During this workshop we will work towards finding our inner clown by introducing a series of improvisational games and exercises. This will allow participants to explore the potential of play and discover the importance of ‘pleasure’ a performer requires on stage. We will investigate the notion of impulse and how to develop a good complicity between performers and between performer and audience, which is essential in clown.

In essence the workshop aims at finding more joy and ease during performance, learning to be more open to uncertainty and to find more honesty as a clown. We encourage each participant to develop their own skills as a clown by unleashing a greater sensibility and sense of humanity. We will also refer to various clown works of the past to further develop our understanding of clown.
