Awards totalling £24,000 each year are given to British poets under the age of 30 on the basis of a submitted collection. Published and unpublished collections may be entered. Applicants must comply with the following criteria:

- the author must ordinarily be resident in the United Kingdom or Northern Ireland;
- the author must be under the age of 30 at 31 March 2009;
- the work submitted may be a published or unpublished volume of poetry, drama-poems or belles-lettres.
