Bassetlaw Summer Festival FUN!
Residents of Bassetlaw were invited to experience the talents of local artists at the Fabulous Arts in Bassetlaw Festival on Saturday 26th July 2008. Swarms of people flocked into Worksop Town Centre, Retford Town Centre and five rural villages (Misterton, Bothamsall, Beckingham, East Markham and Cuckney). The Fabulous event was organised by Bassetlaw District Council in partnership with Rural Community Action Nottinghamshire. The event was part funded by the Alliance SSP. The event promoted free arts workshops and performances for all ages.
The aim of Fabulous Arts in Bassetlaw was to bring together a fusion of different art styles and promote the districts high quality, innovative, cutting edge arts and entertainment activities. Bassetlaw District Council was very pleased to have the support of local artists, venues, promoters and creative industries with this event and was delighted that the public showed their support by attending the event.
Fabulous arts in Bassetlaw is the first arts event to be co-ordinated and part funded by the council in a number of years. Bassetlaw District council hope that this event with be the first of many. For more information about arts in Bassetlaw please visit the website www.creativebassetlaw.org.uk

“Being new to the post it has been a real challenge this year getting to know Bassetlaw’s local artists and creative industries, a challenge I have greatly enjoyed. We are blessed to have so much creativity in Bassetlaw. Thank-you to all who have helped make this event happen. I hope that this event is a positive step for the arts community”.
Karen Tarburton – Rural Officer RCAN
“It has been a great pleasure working with the coordinators for each village; they have all worked really hard. It’s been a fantastic learning curve for everyone involved. This event has enabled us to discover just how much artistic flair the rural communities have”.
